Co-Designing a Website Worth Performing For
Who is the client: Head:On
Where are they based? Brighton, on the vibrant and proudly creative South East coast — a fitting home for an artist whose work challenges, inspires and includes.
About Head:On
Stuart Waters is a critically acclaimed dance artist, coach, performer and choreographer with a 26-year career and a deeply purposeful mission. Through Head:On, Stuart embeds positive mental health access provision, inspires neurodivergent leadership, and fosters new creative collaborations.
His work champions disability inclusion by centralising mental health access, addiction recovery, chronic health and neurodiversity, and he continues this through live performance, training, coaching, mentoring, public speaking and community education. As a senior practitioner coach (EMCC), Stuart doesn’t just create art - he holds space for others to do the same.
How we supported Stuart
Stuart approached Ipsa Consulting needing a website that genuinely reflected the clarity and intentionality of his work. His existing WordPress site had grown unwieldy over time with too many pages, an illogical structure, and a backend that was difficult to update without technical support. He needed something simpler, more accessible for users, and easier for him to manage independently.
We supported Stuart with a full website rebuild and brand identity refresh, migrating to a platform that put him back in control.
The process involved
This project was one of the most genuinely collaborative we’ve undertaken. Stuart, as a neurodivergent creative, wanted to be deeply involved at every stage not handed a finished product, but part of the journey of making it. We embraced that wholeheartedly.
Rather than following a fixed linear process, the project co-evolved. We began with a thorough discovery phase — reviewing the existing site, identifying what was essential and what could be released, and developing a shared understanding of Stuart’s goals and audiences. From there, the work became a creative dialogue: iterative, responsive, and shaped as much by Stuart’s instincts as by our strategic recommendations.
This fluid, co-design approach required real adaptability on our part and it produced something far richer for it.
The outcomes
Website & structure:
A new, significantly streamlined website replaced the overgrown WordPress build, with a clear and logical navigation structure organised around Stuart’s two distinct strands of work: Head:On:Training and Head:On:Presents.
The number of pages was rationalised, removing duplication and confusion, making it immediately easier for visitors to understand what Stuart does and how to work with him.
The site was built on a platform Stuart can confidently update himself, reducing dependency on external technical support.
Messaging:
Messaging was sharpened throughout to speak clearly to Stuart’s multiple audiences: collaborators, commissioners, organisations seeking training, and community participants.
General:
Stuart now has a digital home that supports the next stage of his career with confidence and clarity.
The co-design process itself modelled the inclusive, access-centred approach Stuart champions in his own work, something we’re particularly proud of.
Why Ipsa Consulting chose to work with Stuart
Stuart’s commitment to centring marginalised voices particularly within the LGBTQIA+ community and for neurodivergent people — in both his creative and leadership work made this a natural fit. His is exactly the kind of practice we believe deserves a platform that does it justice.
Working with people who are doing genuinely important things in the world is why we do what we do.
